Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild in Hagerstown: What to Know First

We provide independent Famco chimney liner and rebuild work in Hagerstown, from stainless steel liner replacement to full chimney rebuilds. Most Famco liner jobs take one day; a partial rebuild runs two to three days depending on weather and access. We quote a flat price before any tool comes off the truck, and if the liner does not need replacing, we’ll tell you that first and charge you for a sweep only.

Call (240) 534-1247

This page is for Hagerstown homeowners who already have a Famco chimney liner or cap and are being told it’s failed, or who suspect a problem and want a straight answer. Call (240) 534-1247 and a live person picks up. Often it’s Wendell Pike himself.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Famco stainless steel flexible liners - seam fatigue at the offsets. Older Famco flex liners, especially the single-ply models installed in the 1990s and early 2000s against clay flue walls, develop pinhole leaks where the corrugation changes pitch at a 15 or 30 degree offset. The metal work-hardens at the bend, then hot exhaust gas eats through. We see it most on the north-facing exterior chimneys around Hagerstown’s older neighborhoods. Fix: we cut out the bad section and splice a new Famco-compatible segment, or replace the full run if the fatigue is widespread.
  • Famco caps and chase covers - rust at the weld seams. Famco’s galvanized and aluminum chase covers are solid products, but the factory spot welds around the flue collar are the first place moisture gets in. Five or six Maryland winters of snow sitting against that seam, and you’ll get rust streaks down the chase and water staining on the ceiling below. We remove the old cover, check the flue extension height, and set a new one with a higher collar and sealed corners.
  • Famco liner insulation wrap - gaps behind the mesh. When insulation is installed loosely around a Famco flex liner, it sags within the first two years and leaves the liner running hot against masonry. That’s a firebox clearance problem waiting to happen. We verify insulation continuity with a camera before we sign off on any liner rebuild, and we rewrap where the mesh has pulled away.
  • Famco rigid liner sections - misaligned twist-lock joints after thermal cycling. Rigid Famco sections rely on twist-lock connections. Heat cycling can loosen them enough to let flue gas into the chase. The telltale is a faint sulfur smell in an upstairs room with no visible source. We pull the affected section, inspect the joint, and either re-seat it with high-temp sealant or replace the run.
  • Older Famco terra cotta reproduction liners - spalling in the throat area. These liners work fine until a hot fire on a cold January night shocks the tile. The throat area spalls first. The pieces fall into the smoke shelf and eventually block the draft. If your flue was built with Famco tile in the early 2000s, we check the throat with a camera on every sweep. A spalled throat means a stainless liner insert or a partial rebuild, depending on what the camera shows.

Here’s the thing about Famco products. The brand is fine. The failures we see are almost always installation errors or age, not manufacturing defects. That’s true across every brand we service: DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, all of them. The chimney asks the same question every year. Does the flue breathe?

Our Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild Process

  1. 1
Call and talk to a person. No phone tree. You tell us what you’re seeing. We schedule a visit and give you a real arrival window.
  2. 2
The inspection. Wendell or one of the crew runs a camera up the flue and down from the top. You see the footage with your own eyes before we recommend anything.
  3. 3
The plain-English verdict. If the Famco liner has life left in it, you hear that. If it’s done, we show you why and give you a flat written price for the fix.
  4. 4
Parts decision. We use Famco-compatible components where they’re the right call, and quality aftermarket steel when it’s the better value. Everything is listed on the invoice by part number.
  5. 5
The work. Liner replacements are done in a day. Rebuilds run longer. We protect the floor, keep the dust contained, and leave the hearth cleaner than we found it.
  6. 6
The test and the promise. We do a draft test, show you the after footage, and hand you a written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If anything isn’t right, one call brings us back at no charge.

What Famco Chimney Liner & Rebuild Costs in Hagerstown

Here are honest ranges for the Famco work we do most in Hagerstown:

  • Famco stainless steel liner replacement (single flue, one story): $1,100-$1,800 depending on length and access.
  • Famco liner replacement with insulation wrap: add $300-$500.
  • Chase cover replacement (Famco or compatible): $350-$700 installed.
  • Partial chimney rebuild (above the roofline): $1,800-$3,500 depending on brick condition and height.
  • Full chimney rebuild from the firebox up: $6,000-$12,000. We only recommend this when the camera shows the structure is genuinely compromised, not as a pressure tactic.

What moves the price: chimney height, roof pitch, interior access, and whether the existing Famco components can be salvaged. You’ll get the exact number in writing before we start. Call (240) 534-1247 for a free estimate. No trip charge inside the county.
